Sonoma Coast Wedding Photography

A Sonoma Coast wedding,
Pacific cliffs.

Six spots, the Big-Sur-without-the-drive aesthetic, Timber Cove + Sea Ranch architecture. 90 minutes from SF, half the price, fewer crowds.

The Sonoma Coast is the most underrated wedding region in California. Same Pacific cliffs as Big Sur. Same redwood-meets-ocean drama. Same wine country 30 minutes inland. Half the drive, less than half the cost.

It is also distinct from inland Sonoma vineyards — that is gold-hills-and-grape-country. The coast is salt-air-and-driftwood country. Different gallery, same brand.

September. Timber Cove or Sea Ranch. Bodega Head for the free cliffside.

FAQ

Most-asked questions.

Sonoma Coast or Big Sur?+
Sonoma Coast is 90 min from SF (vs 3 hrs for Big Sur). Quieter, less photographed, more affordable. Same dramatic Pacific cliffs. The trade: less iconic landmarks (no Bixby Bridge equivalent). For couples who want the big-coast aesthetic without the drive — Sonoma Coast wins.
Sonoma Coast vs inland Sonoma vineyard?+
Completely different aesthetics. Inland Sonoma = vineyard estates, golden hills, wine-country reception. Coast = Pacific cliffs, redwoods, salt air, dramatic scale. Many couples do both — vineyard ceremony + coast portrait session, or coast ceremony + vineyard rehearsal-dinner inland.
What about Sea Ranch?+
Iconic mid-century-modern community designed by Charles Moore in 1965. Distinctive sea-weathered cedar architecture. Reception venues at Sea Ranch Lodge. Most striking aesthetic on the Sonoma Coast — feels like Scandinavia by the Pacific. Books 12+ months out.
Bodega Bay vs Jenner?+
Bodega Bay = larger fishing-village + tourist amenities + Lodge at Bodega Bay (50–200 ppl venue). Jenner = quieter, where the Russian River meets the Pacific, fewer venues, more elopement-friendly. Both are 90 min from SF.
Where do guests stay?+
Timber Cove Resort ($300–700, on-property if you book Timber Cove). Sea Ranch Lodge ($350–600, on-property). Lodge at Bodega Bay ($250–500). Inn at the Tides ($200–400, Bodega Bay). Russian River Vacation Homes ($300–700, Jenner area). Limited Airbnb — book 6+ months out.
Permits at Goat Rock or Bodega Head?+
Goat Rock: $300 state park wedding permit, max 50 ppl, file 30 days out. Bodega Head: GGNRA land, no permit needed for couple-only ceremonies. Salt Point: $300 state park permit. Couple-only elopements without setup = no permit at any of them.
How much does a Sonoma Coast wedding photographer cost?+
AGV starts at $4,500 for 8-hour Sonoma Coast coverage including travel from the Bay Area + 1 night lodging. Most couples book 10 hours ($5,500–7,000). Multi-day weekend coverage $7,000–9,000. Travel + lodging at-cost.
Drive from SF — really 90 min?+
Yes via Highway 101 → Highway 1 (turn off at Petaluma). Beautiful drive through Marin/Sonoma backroads. Highway 1 north of Bodega Bay slows to 35 mph (winding cliffs). Plan 2 hours to be safe. Anderson Valley wineries 30 min inland.
