East Bay Wedding Photography

An East Bay wedding,
Oakland to Berkeley.

Six venues, the Brazil Room secret, the Bay Bridge backdrop, the East-Bay-vs-SF math. Urban + park + waterfront galleries 30 minutes from SF.

The East Bay is San Francisco's underrated wedding region. Tilden Park has 100-ft redwoods. Oakland Hills has Bay views from above. Berkeley has the Botanical Garden + Campanile. Lake Merritt has the iconic urban skyline.

It also costs 30–50% less than SF venues, with easier parking, cheaper hotels, and a BART line. The trade-off is brand recognition — but the photography is identical.

Brazil Room. Sequoyah. UC Botanical. Or a Lake Merritt elopement.

FAQ

Most-asked questions.

Why East Bay over SF?+
Three reasons. (1) East Bay weddings cost 30–50% less in venue + catering than SF. (2) East Bay venues have outdoor space — Brazil Room redwood backdrop, Sequoyah golf course, UC Botanical 34 acres — SF venues are mostly indoors. (3) Easier guest logistics — parking exists, hotels are cheaper, BART makes it carless-friendly. The downside: less brand recognition than SF City Hall or Cliff House.
Brazil Room — is it the right venue?+
For most East Bay couples, yes. $5K rental + your choice of catering = $20K-25K all-in for 100 guests. Redwood + stone aesthetic. Outdoor ceremony in the meadow + indoor reception. Books 12–18 months out for Saturdays — Sundays book later (and are 30% cheaper).
Permits at Tilden + Lakeside Park?+
Tilden Brazil Room: included in rental fee. Outside Brazil Room (e.g. ceremony in the redwood grove): $200 East Bay Regional Park District permit, file 30 days out. Lake Merritt / Lakeside Park: Oakland city permit ($150) for ceremonies with chairs. Couple-only elopements: no permit.
Is Oakland safe for weddings?+
Yes — the wedding-area neighborhoods (Oakland Hills, Piedmont, Lake Merritt, Jack London Square, Temescal, Rockridge) are safe day + night. Use a coordinator who knows the city for guest logistics. Rideshare is reliable. Major venues have secure parking.
Where do guests stay?+
Claremont Club & Spa ($350–700, Berkeley/Oakland border, 1915 grande dame), Waterfront Hotel Jack London Square ($250–450), Hotel Shattuck Plaza ($250–400, Berkeley), Z Hotel Jack London ($200–350, design-forward), Inn at Jack London Square ($200–350). For SF guests: BART makes overnight optional.
What about the Bay Bridge backdrop?+
Best from Treasure Island (10-min drive from any East Bay venue). Treasure Island has free parking on the shoulder + the iconic SF + Bay Bridge skyline at night. We add 30 min on the way back from Oakland weddings to grab the bridge-light couple shot.
How much does an East Bay wedding photographer cost?+
AGV starts at $3,500 for 8-hour East Bay coverage (no travel — we are Bay Area-based). Most couples book 10 hours ($4,500–5,500) which covers getting-ready + ceremony + multi-spot portraits + reception. East Bay is cheaper than Big Sur or Mendocino because no overnight + travel costs.
